About

I am a composer and music creative for film, concert performance and fixed media.

Born and raised in Austin, Texas, I explored many styles of music growing up, from classical to jazz to rock. Over the last 20 years as an acoustic guitarist, singer/songwriter, electronic musician and producer, these experiences serendipitously led me to scoring several award-winning independent films. In collaborating with film and dance companies I learned the ropes of serving other art forms, and how to effectively communicate emotion and a sense of story. Today, my composing process is often inspired by the expressive artforms of film, pictures and dance.

My experiences as a film composer inform much of my sensibilities toward lyrical long-form melody and orchestral clarity of line. However, as a life-long student of composition, my journey has forged additional depths beyond the emotively tonal into what my colleagues have labeled as “neoclassical pandiatonicism.” And it is this depth along with my love of jazz, drum corps, and interval theory, that produces an amalgamation of huge emotional range.

I truly enjoy collaborating with directors, filmmakers, choreographers and performing artists. My wife Lisa and I have been married 30 years and have two grown children, Rebecca and Justus.

I support the American Composers Forum (ACF), and I am a member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Texas Orchestra Directors Association (TODA) and Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI).
